Succulent shrub with a very broad caudex, growing up to 35 cm in diameter by the 7th year of life. Leaves emerge from the shoot-bunches in thin strands, up to 20 cm in height. The base of the caudex becomes very coarsened over time, cracks, excrescences and whitish plaque appear. Looks like a stump.
