A plant with a single and slightly thickened tuber 30 cm in diameter, the upper part of which partly emerges from the ground. It develops stems, herbaceous or semi-trunken, erect, up to 30-40 cm in height, bearing whorls of sessile green leaves. Both stems and leaves are completely covered with silvery-white down. The leaf blade is ovate, up to 15 cm long. In summer, adult plants show ephemeral flowers, singly or in clusters of 3-5. Coloration is variable – pink, orange or bright red.
